Self Portrait

I created this self portrait for the Self Portrait show at 33 Contemporary Gallery in Chicago. Even though I did not make it into the show, it was a great experience learning about the application process, and how I can prefect my picture to make future shows.

I entitled this portrait "Fake Empire", after a song by The National that stuck with me through the drawing, and reminded me of this drawing.

To me a self portrait should be used to encompass everything about the subject at the time it is created. For me, I had to include the area where I am living, my everyday style, anything that people know me by, and my artistic interests at the time. Like many of my other works, this portrait used white space, a mix of color and black and white, plus objects fading in and out of the image. Currently, my work revolves around architecture, perspective, and how I can abstract them.

My goal was to create a thought provoking image that the viewer would want to keep visiting and looking at the fine details. I was happy with the outcome, but there is always room for improvements.

Note: I am note sure how following works with this site, but if you would like to know about when I update, follow my twitter, TroyRexART. I will post when I have made an update.
