Self Portrait: Wired Up

Title: Wired Up
Size: 14 x 14 in.
Medium: Pencil and Colored Pencil on a tan mat board

After doing the self portrait for the 33 Contemporary show, I continued to explore other ideas that I had brainstormed for the show. Getting these ideas down on paper helped me visualize the different ways I could of approached my entry last June.

I decided to go for a more fun image and settled on one taken at a party. Then I added elements and objects that have been grabbing my attention as an artist over the past year. Stylistically, I am influenced by Charles Demuth. I actively try and emulate the way he uses the lines and planes objects create to divide and manipulate his pictures.

This is still a work in progress, and I will post a final picture when its completed!

Victorian House Drawing

Medium: Pen and Watercolor
Dimensions: 11x14

For about three years now I have been doing house drawings. It started as a possible way to earn some extra money using my art skills. Slowly but surely my house drawing business became more popular and I have done about ten drawings, and more are on the way. My family and friends have been a great help in getting the word out about my drawings. These drawings have influenced my current artistic style because they have forced me to spend numerous hours studying and drawing architecture.

This Victorian home is my most recent house drawing. It was the most intricate house drawing for me to date because of the mass amount of detailing on the house. It was a challenge, but very fun to draw.

Note: Still working on my image quality, lighting is not always the best! And follow my twitter for updates: troyrexart

Self Portrait

I created this self portrait for the Self Portrait show at 33 Contemporary Gallery in Chicago. Even though I did not make it into the show, it was a great experience learning about the application process, and how I can prefect my picture to make future shows.

I entitled this portrait "Fake Empire", after a song by The National that stuck with me through the drawing, and reminded me of this drawing.

To me a self portrait should be used to encompass everything about the subject at the time it is created. For me, I had to include the area where I am living, my everyday style, anything that people know me by, and my artistic interests at the time. Like many of my other works, this portrait used white space, a mix of color and black and white, plus objects fading in and out of the image. Currently, my work revolves around architecture, perspective, and how I can abstract them.

My goal was to create a thought provoking image that the viewer would want to keep visiting and looking at the fine details. I was happy with the outcome, but there is always room for improvements.

Note: I am note sure how following works with this site, but if you would like to know about when I update, follow my twitter, TroyRexART. I will post when I have made an update.

My Art Blog

I am starting this blog to allow people to see what I am currently working on at home and at school. This summer I have been producing more artwork then I ever have, and that should continue when I get back to school. Hopefully this site will allow you to see all of the images I am creating, and maybe give some insight to my art process.

My goal is to have as many people see my artwork as possible. It is important to me that others are seeing the works I am creating because they mean so much to me. Hopefully you enjoy what you see, and if you ever want to give me feedback, feel free.

Ignore my future spelling and grammatical errors, its not one of my strengths.
